For Practitioners

Camaraderie and Curiosity

Whatever your discipline, there's value in having colleagues to think alongside, and to cheer each other on.

In The Collaborative we take conversations from the Low Vision Beyond the Clinic podcast further in informal, multidisciplinary virtual gatherings where an idea might become a tool, a strategy to try, or something to practice together.

Occupational therapists, TVIs, O&M specialists, optometrists, psychologists, social workers, researchers, and others whose work touches low vision are part of this conversation.

Whether or not "low vision" is in your job title, if the people you serve have low vision, your input matters.

Low Vision Beyond the Clinic

The LVBTC Collaborative

The Collaborative brings practitioners across disciplines together for informal virtual gatherings focused on questions about research and practice, with room for different perspectives and shared problem-solving.

During a gathering, we might compare approaches, swap stories from practice, talk through a challenge, try a strategy together, or turn an idea into something useful for our own work. It's a chance to see what others are doing, think things through, and decide what we might want to carry back into practice.

Topics may include:

Integrating Psychologically Informed Practice

Facilitating Multidisciplinary Collaboration

Exploring Clinical Gaps

Leveraging Technology for Individualized Care

Nurturing Practitioner Curiosity and Sustainability

About Erika

Low vision practitioners often feel isolated and crave nuanced conversations about the field and the challenges they face. That's my story, too, and why I created the Low Vision Beyond the Clinic podcast and The Collaborative community for clinicians and educators.

I'm Erika Andersen Ko, a Certified Low Vision Therapist (CLVT) with a background in medical and educational settings and a whole-person approach to low vision. In addition to my private practice and consulting, much of my work is about asking questions, bringing practitioners from across disciplines together, and connecting the dots between research findings and what they might look like in practice. Envision recognized my work with its 2026 Oculus Award, given for international or national impact for people who are blind or have low vision.

I'm grateful to have had mentors and colleagues who have cheered me on, and I hope The Collaborative does the same for you.
